David Reed worked with the Architect and builders and materials manufacturers to help create the Kellogg Doolittle House, a high desert masterpiece completed in 1993.
The architect wanted a waterproof membrane for the concrete roof that would hold up in the harsh environment and would blend in with the natural landscape. David worked with a coatings manufacturer to develop a product that would meet the challenge and provide the organic aesthetic the architect needed and match the color Bev Doolittle mixed with her palette on site.
Reed Consulting has worked on a number of projects in California.
With 35 years of experience, Reed Consulting really has seen it all.
Our many satisfied customers tell the story.
David Reed and Reed Consulting was introduced to our family through a network of construction professionals dedicated to Best Business Practices in the commercial and multi-Family construction industry. My wife and I decided to bring these Best Business Practices into the design for our ‘Coastal Farmhouse’ dream home in North County Coastal San Diego.
The original concept was simply to create a watertight skin system, but what we received is much more. Reed Consulting not only facilitated the design of our skin system, but they coordinated material procurement, delivery, manufacture guideline installation inspections and provided design criteria to our local municipality.
David Reed considered every aspect of our holistic continuous system. From the foundation waterproofing to water barrier skin system, to flashing in doors, windows and foundation edge, proper site drainage, ceiling insulation, roof and roof eaves… this Tremco / USG Securock ExoAir 430 Air/Water barrier membrane is tight!
Not only did this system save us money, it saved us time allowing us to occupy weeks sooner than originally scheduled.
We highly recommend any homeowner interested to this cutting-edge construction technology to start with a conversation with David Reed.
Specifications: Reed Consulting specified the Tremco /USG Securock ExoAir 430 Air/Water barrier membrane to provide a holistic continuous system as the basis of design to assure this custom beach house will be weather tight, and also provided Quality Assurance site visits to support the applicators. Reed also called out insulated roof panels which were used to prevent thermal breaks so that there would be no condensation drips, which are common with vaulted ceilings near the beach. The goal was to provide as much of a complete enclosure as possible, from under the slab, to the weather barrier, sealing all openings, and continuing to the roof.
Benefits: Efficiency and speed of installation saving time and money. Sustainable energy saving design.
